Auricular Therapy
Auricular therapy or ear acupuncture is a comprehensive system of diagnosis and treatment. It is based on the theory that the ear is a microsystem of the entire body. It originated in China, but has been redeveloped in Europe (primarily France and Germany) over the past 40 years.
The ears are connected to the rest of the body via the central nervous system. Every point of the body corresponds to a point of the ear. In a healthy person the link is not apparent but when there is an imbalance it's corresponding point in the ear becomes painful.
Ailments of the entire body are treatable by stimulation of the surface of the ear. Similar mappings are used in reflexology and iridology. Auricular therapy is also a highly effective system for analyzing problem areas from the external ear.
The ear has the shape of an inverted fetus, with the anatomic regions of the fetus corresponding to specific zones of the ear. A large number of sites have been identified on the ear which become spontaneously tender or otherwise react to the presence of disease or injury elsewhere in the body. These sites are reportedly consistent from one individual to the next.
Stimulation of these ear points in time exerts certain therapeutic effects on those parts of the body with which they are associated. It is believed that pain and other symptoms in any part of the body could be relieved by needling, massaging, or electrically stimulating the corresponding region of the ear.
Almost all health conditions can be affected to some degree by stimulated ear points. The most common reported uses have been for control of chronic pain, detoxification from addictions, (smoking and heroin and cocaine), relief from nausea, and high blood pressure.
Ear reflexology is not only effective in the treatment of a wide range of common diseases, it can also be used with good results in the treatment of difficult emotional states.
