Instructions to A New NAET® Patient
NAET® is not a primary care procedure. While receiving NAET® treatments, patients should help keep their symptoms in check by taking the necessary medications, therapies or other modalities as recommended by their primary care physician.
Before Beginning Treatment
Prepare the appropriate foods that you are allowed to consume in advance, and prepare the home and/or work environment appropriately in order to avoid contact with the treated allergen during the 25-hour avoidance period.- Distilled water should be used with treatment for salt mix, mineral mix, calcium mix and chemicals.
- Take a shower before treatment, and wear clean clothes. Various smells can cause irritation and reactions in other sensitive patients in the clinic waiting room.
- Do not wear any perfume, strong smelling deodorant, hair spray, or after-shave.
- Eat as you should not receive NAET® treatments and acupuncture when you are hungry. But do not eat strong smelling herbs like raw garlic, seafood, etc.
- Do not bring food to the clinic. Another patient in the office waiting room might react to the smell of the food.
- Wear minimum or no jewelry. Avoid wearing large crystals or diamonds. Avoid watches, metal objects, and electronic equipment like cameras and cell phones.
- Wash hands with soap and water before beginning the NST (Neuromuscular sensitivity testing procedure). Hand washing will remove any leftover residue.
- Drink a glass of water before the NAET® treatment. Energy moves better in a well hydrated body.
- Bring in a copy of ALL relevant medical records and laboratory reports.
- NAET® treatments are not recommended if you are extremely tired, worked a night shift, or worked too many hours without a break.
- For FEMALE patients: Treatments are not advisable during the first three days of menstrual cycle.
- Patients with a history of ANAPHYLAXIS should inform the practitioner on the very first visit before beginning the testing and treatments. Your NAET® practitioner will take adequate precautions to prevent you from becoming anaphylactic during treatments.

During Treatment
- Patients must be alone in the treatment room with their NAET® practitioner while getting tested or treated with NAET® unless a segregate is required to do the testing and treatment.
- Patients must receive NAET® treatments through a surrogate if in advanced stage of pregnancy, recovering from back surgery, or suffering from scoliosis, obesity, psoriasis or other debilitating skin problems. Patients with a history of anaphylaxis must also be treated through a surrogate.
- Wash or rub your hands together for 30 seconds after touching a sample allergen. False results may occur if the energy of the previous item has not been removed from the hands before touching a new one.
Basic 15 Treatments
- Ordinarily, patients will receive the NAET Basic 15 Treatment first. This treatment, which includes basic nutrients, vitamins and minerals, addresses possible allergies to the body’s essential nutrients required to maintain normal body functions as well as a healthy immune system. With this approach, not only do patients feel better overall, but their allergic sensitivity will be reduced. Furthermore, fewer NAET® treatments will be required to get maximum results. If a severe allergen is desensitized before completing the basic treatments, reactions can often be very unpleasant.
- Most people begin to see significant health changes after completing the first five treatments from the Basic 15. At this point patients should, if possible, eat food from these five groups only.
- Hard-to-avoid items like prescription drugs will be treated before the Basic 15, then self-treated at home.
- Acute problems will be treated first before starting the Basic 15 Treatments. Allergies to white rice, or pasta can also be treated before the Basic 15.
- Patients with severe reaction to pollen, weeds, cigarette smoke, regular medication like chemotherapy drugs, antibiotics, standard emotional blockage removal treatments, and person-to-person allergies can be treated for their specific allergy after completing six basic treatments. When the treatment for the acute allergen is satisfactorily completed, the Basic 15 Treatment will continue.
- The allergen being treated must be completely desensitized before treating for a new allergen. Otherwise the presenting symptoms related to this allergen may worsen.
- Do not read or touch other objects with your fingers during the 20 min waiting period after NAET® treatment.
- Do not cross your hands or feet during the first 20 minutes following the NAET® treatment. Lying or resting with a calm mind is beneficial.
- Wash your hands with plain water before leaving the office or rub your hands vigorously for 30 seconds.
- Do not bathe, shower or exercise vigorously for 6 hours. A mild walk is fine.
- Avoid exposure to extreme hot or cold temperature.
- Drink 4-6 glasses of spring or purified water through the day after NAET® treatments to help flush out the toxins produced during the treatment.
- Avoid contact with the allergen for 25 hours or more after treatment. If you come into contact with the treated allergen before completing the 25-hour avoidance period, wash your hands immediately or rub your palms together for a few seconds. Then give yourself a balancing treatment.
- Have the treated item retested after 25 hours, within one week of treatment to make sure you have successfully neutralized the allergen.
- Patents who cannot avoid the allergen during the specified period of time should self-balance their gate points every two hours while awake as well as before and after exposure to the allergen.
- After completing your treatment satisfactorily for an allergen, consume a small amount of the item daily for three to four days. If the treatment is not completely successful, minor symptoms may appear. The practitioner will find the reasons behind the symptoms and eliminate them. Another benefit of introducing the treated allergen into your body is to reconfirm to the brain and nervous system that this item is harmlessness.
This method allows the nervous system to remember the allergen even if you never come into contact with it for years. Please note that patients with a history of ANAPHYLAXIS follow a different protocol.
- If you can, consume only foods and drinks from the desensitized groups. Add new items to your list as you complete each treatment. This will reduce your overall discomfort while going through the rest of the treatments and your NAET® treatments will be more effective.
- The number of recommended treatments per week varies from person to person. A patient with severe allergies and a poor immune system can usually only tolerate one treatment per week. But patients with a stronger immune system can tolerate three or more treatments per week.
- Extra precautions may be required while you get treated for environmental substances: (mineral mix, metals, water, leather, formaldehyde, fabric, wood, mold, mercury, newspaper, chemicals, flowers, etc.). Apart from staying away from these items, you may also need to wear a mask, gloves, socks, shoes, gowns, scarves, earplugs, etc. You can also massage the gate points every two hours while awake during the 25-hour period if the allergen is not completely avoidable.
- After completion of the Basic 15 Treatment, patients should begin to gather a small sample of food and drinks eaten daily. While holding the sample, balance the gate points every night before bedtime.
- Once every month or so, or after completing treatments for ten to fifteen allergens, your practitioner will repeat testing on all treated allergens. If an allergen registers under 50 percent, they will be boosted up again. No avoidance is necessary at this time.
- Those suffering from severe allergic reactions are advised to take immune system stimulants and undertake a cleansing program to help eliminate the buildup of toxins in the body. Also it is advisable to limit the variety of food intake during treatment, and incorporate an exercise program and complimentary therapy sessions into one’s lifestyle.
- Emotionally hypersensitive people should take nerve strengthening supplements as well as counseling.
- If you are a highly sensitive person, or if you experience any discomfort during the 25-hour avoidance period (crying spells, depression, unusual emotions or pain), you may need to balance your gate points every 2 hours.
- All NAET patients should learn to massage the gate points to help balance the body between treatments. See attached information. Additional gate points will be provided as required depending on the presenting condition.
Possible Reactions After Treatment
Some patients experience no changes with their first NAET treatments. A few find the changes to be very subtle. Some patients may suffer from unpleasant reactions or worsening of symptoms. The intensity of the reactions depend on may factors such as age, the duration and intensity of the allergy related illness, the strength of the immune system, and how successfully the patient avoided contact with the treated allergen during the 25-hour avoidance period.
If you get a life-threatening reaction from an allergen (either from the one you were treated for in the office or another one), seek emergency help immediately from a primary care physician, emergency room, or by calling 911.

Additional Information about NAET®
- If you did not complete the recommended treatment plan do not panic. NAET® is an energy balancing, non-invasive procedure. It has not caused any long-term adverse effects on anyone since its discovery over twenty-three years ago. Temporary symptoms may be due to the incomplete treatment and may continue for a maximum of two or three weeks.
- If you did not repeat the treatment for the unfinished allergen, eventually you may return to your pre-NAET® status. In a few days, the body views the incompletely treated allergen as an allergen that has never been treated before.
- Sometimes, patients continue to suffer from the same symptoms as before treatment even though sensitivity to the treated allergen has been eliminated. In such cases, the patient is often sensitive to a different allergen capable of producing similar symptoms. When one allergen gets desensitized and eliminated from the body, others will get noticed more easily. The symptoms of the previous allergen will continue until all the allergens are desensitized with NAET®.
- When one has a weakness in a particular area of the body, every allergen affects that area of the body, giving rise to similar symptoms. If this is the case, you may not see significant changes in your health until you complete NAET® for Basic Fifteen allergens.
- NAET® treatments have not been shown to interfere with any other treatment.
- NAET® treatments during pregnancy have shown to provide tremendous benefit to both mother and child.
- When you receive the NAET® treatment you may be required to supplement your diet with the appropriate amount of vitamins and minerals. When the base nutrients are supplemented appropriately pain and discomfort arising from various disorders like chronic fatigue, general body aches, arthritis, and other pain disorders will be reduced.
- Supplements in mega doses are often needed for a number of months in the following cases: arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, any chronic problems related to allergies, hair loss, constipation, degenerative diseases, cancer, etc.
