Instructor: Maurice Lavigne

Maurice has been studying various aspects of universal energy (Qi in Chinese – Ki in Japanese) via the martial and healing arts for close to 40 years. In the early seventies in Bathurst, NB, he practiced the art of Ju Jitsu partly to help understand the mysteries surrounding the use of Ki as a way to protect the body from injury and improve the striking power of martial techniques. He also studied Yoga and incorporated a number of the exercses into his fitness workouts.

MauriceIn the early eighties, he discovered the self-defence art of Aikido, defined as the Way of Harmonizing your personal energy with the energy of the Universe. After many years of practice Maurice obtained the rank of third Dan Black Belt. He is seen in the photo, back row to your left, at the University of Moncton sports complex in 1983, with his first Aikido teacher, Mahamed Benchabane of the Ki Society of Aikido.

Approximately 15 years ago Maurice became a Registered Massage Therapist. He has studied various energy modalities since becoming a Massage Therapist such as Cranial Sacral Therapy, Reiki, Healing Touch, a hard and soft form of Oriental Pressure Point Therapy, MyoFascial Release, and Qi Gong Energy Healing.

QigongMauWuMaurice was first introduced to Qi Gong in 1996. He trained for six years with former Master Weizhao Wu of Toronto, Ontario. Master Wu can be seen in the photo at the left of the screen during a visit to St Stephen, New Brunswick, in 2005.

While living in China, Master Wu was appointed Qi Gong Master to the Chinese Qi Gong Talent Bank of the Science Research Academy, the highest official network of Chinese Qi Gong. After immigrating to Canada in the early 1990's, he created Wu’s Hunyuan Gong which he taught for over ten years in major centers across North America.

QiGongWorkUS4Maurice then affiliated with Qi Gong Grandmaster and Doctor of Chinese Medicine, T.K. Shih, founder of the Chinese Healing Arts Centre in Connecticut, USA. In the center of the photo we can see Grandmaster T.K. Shih with Maurice and another student. The picture was taken at the Chinese Healing Arts Center during a Qi Gong Therapy workshop held in the summer of 2007. Over the last 15 years, Maurice has received Certification in several styles of Qi Gong and Tai Chi as well as Certification as a Qi Healer.

In 2008 he became a professional acupuncturist and is now President of the Maratime Associaton of Registered Acupuncturists (MARA). He received certification as a NAET Allergy Elimination Practitionner in 2009 and in Advanced Chinese Herbal Medicine in January of 2012 from the Institute of Chinese Herbal Medicine of California, USA.

Maurice now practices Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Chinses Herbal Medicine, NAET Allergy Elimination and Qi Healing at the Fredericton Wellness Clinic Inc. In addition, Maurice teaches classes and workshops in Aikido, Zumba Fitness, Qi Yoga and Qi Gong.
