What is Qi...
"Water condenses into ice, Qi into man", Wang Chong (Ancient Sage)
According to an ancient Chinese saying, "life comes into beginning because Qi is amassed; when Qi is scattered, the person dies."
Chinese physicians understood that everything is composed of the same energetic substance called Qi. Ancient masters concluded that although energy may appear to take on different forms, energetically everything is interconnected as one body.
They developed exercises following this principal involving mind and body to help maintain health and longevity. The ancients mastered techniques to balance the body's energy or Qi in order to live in harmony with the environmental or earthly Qi as well as the universal or heavenly Qi.
Qi is the medium or bridge that exists between matter and spirit. It is the most basic source of matter in the universe and contains informational messages carried within a complex energy substance basic to life itself.
In short, Qi condenses to form the physical world that we all live in together.
Medical Qi Gong consists of breathing, movement and meditation techniques that purge toxic Qi from the body, tonify and balance the body's internal and external energy fields.
In the Qi Gong view, the best way to prevent or cure disease requires reestablishing an energetic balance between the body's energy field and the Universal (Cosmic) energy field.
Qi Gong helps establish this energetic balance.
Through simple mind exercises it strengthens the ability of the body to heal itself. Regular practice of Qi Gong lowers blood pressure, pulse rates and metabolic rates as well as the body's demand for oxygen. It increases the lung's capacity to absorb and store oxygen and promotes the circulation of blood and Qi.
In short, it promotes a healthy mind in a healthy body.
